Swamp Base Canoe Trip

posted Apr 4, 2016, 11:59 AM by Mark Chiasson   [ updated Apr 4, 2016, 1:06 PM ]

On Sunday, April 3rd, the Troop went to Lake Martin outside of Breaux Bridge for a canoe trip.  It was one of the weekend day treks supplied by the Atchafalaya Swamp Base.  We paddled the 3.1 miles around the perimeter of Lake Martin.  The weather was perfect and the boys had a blast.  We saw over a dozen alligators, a variety of birds. and several turtles.

More information on the day trek can be found here.

Court of Honor

posted Jan 28, 2016, 6:03 AM by Mark Chiasson

Sunday is our first Court of Honor for 2016. Merit badges from Winter Camp will be awarded as well as any outstanding rank achievements. We will also award our newest scouts their first rank. The meeting will be in the Parish Hall from 3pm to 5pm. Parents are invited to attend.

I ask that a handful of adult leaders arrive around 2pm on Sunday. We have at least two Board of Reviews to take care of, as well as 5-7 Scoutmaster Conferences. The more adult leaders we have on hand the better.

I would also like to have a brief Troop Committee Leader Meeting following the Court of Honor.  There are one or two agenda items that need to be discussed.

Schedule:

1/31 - Court of Honor, Parish Hall 3pm

2/07 - No Troop Meeting, Mardi Gras
2/14 - TBD, Valentine's Day
2/21 - Troop Meeting, Parish Hall 3pm
2/27-2/28 - Jambalaya Fundraiser
2/28 - Scout Sunday, No Troop Meeting

3/05 - Sewell Eagle Merit Badge Day, LSU
3/06 - Pack 103 Pinewood Derby, service hours
3/06 - Troop Meeting, Parish Hall 3pm
3/13 - TBD
3/20 - Troop Meeting, Parish Hall 3pm
3/27 - No Troop Meeting, Easter

Congratulations & meeting change

posted Jan 21, 2016, 6:11 AM by Mark Chiasson

Congratulations to the new scouts that attended their first camp out as Boy Scouts this weekend.  We had a wonderful time at Lost Bayou.  The new boys were able to complete most of the requirements for Scout rank and they all earned their Totin' Chip.

Also, two older boys completed the camping and trek requirements for Cooking. Congratulations!

A Court of Honor was scheduled for this weekend.  We have decided to push it back one week.  We will now host that on Sunday, January 31st.  As a result, the meeting this weekend will be used to finish Scout requirements for the new scouts and to review some other items for the older boys.  Both meetings, this Sunday and next, will be in the Parish Hall from 3pm to 5pm.

Christmas Baskets & Laser Tag

posted Dec 18, 2015, 8:58 AM by Mark Chiasson

Reminder that tomorrow we will be assembling the Christmas baskets for St. Vincent de Paul in the Parish Hall.  We will be there from 10:30 until 1:30.  This service project will help enhance the lives of some of our parish members.  Please come help!

Tomorrow evening will be the Laser Tag Lock In.  There are plenty of spots available.  Friends are welcome provided they are at least 10 years of age and 46" tall.

Right now most of the boys signed up are Webelos through 2nd Class.  Are you older boys going to let the young boys show you guys up?  If we get enough boys, we will have a Battle Royale laser tag competition to see which scouts come out on top!

The cost is $25.00 per scout.  It will begin at midnight and end at 5am.  Please make sure your scout arrives by 11:45pm.

Laser Tag is located at 5871 S Sherwood Forest Blvd.

You can register for the lock-in via the Troop Square store.

The Laser Tag Lock In still has spots available.  The lock in starts at midnight (as Saturday turns to Sunday), and will be at Laser Tag of Baton Rouge on Sherwood Forest.  Payments can be made via the link below:

It is $25 per person.  Guests are welcome. This is an easy way to fulfill the "invite a friend" requirement for the First Class rank.  Please enter the scout(s) and guest's names in the details field at checkout.

Info for December

posted Dec 3, 2015, 8:52 AM by Mark Chiasson   [ updated Dec 14, 2015, 10:22 AM ]

The Troop will not have a formal meeting this Sunday as the Bible study group has requested the Parish Hall again.  The Cub Scout Pack is having their Christmas meeting/crossing over ceremony at 4:30pm on Sunday.  With that being the case, all PLC members are being asked to attend to welcome the new scouts into the Troop.
Next Sunday (12/13), the Troop will have our last meeting of the year.  The location has yet to be announced as the Parish Hall will not be available.  I will announce via email the location and time early next week.  Stay tuned.

The following weekend (12/19-12/20) is the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas basket service project and the laser tag lock in.  The service project will be held in the Parish Hall from 10:30am to 1:30pm.

The laser tag lock in will be held at Laser Tag at 5871 South Sherwood Forest from midnight to 5:00am on December 20th.  The cost for the lock in is $25 per person and can be paid at the Troop Square store.

Please enter the scout's name in the details area at checkout.  For any scouts who need the requirement of inviting a friend to a Troop meeting/outing, this is an easy way to achieve the requirement.  If your scout is bringing a friend, their name needs to be entered in the details area as well.

We will not have a meeting on Sunday, December 20th.

Winter Camp at Avondale begins on Sunday, December 27th.  Mr. Eddie sent an email yesterday to those scouts attending with your the class schedules.
